You can’t visit your dentist every single day, but it is possible to take care of your teeth from home to ensure that they are healthy between cleanings and check-ups. We’ve come up with some of our best pieces of advice for taking care of your teeth at home that we’d like to share with you
- Brush your teeth. We may sound like your mom, but it’s the most important thing you can do to make sure you’re taking care of your teeth at home. Don’t just spend 20 seconds lightly bushing over your teeth when you’re in a rush before work, but really take the time to brush each tooth thoroughly, and don’t forget the gums and tongue. Invest in a good toothbrush and toothpaste that fulfills your needs, be it enamel strength, or whitening.
- Floss. Another thing that’s been drilled into your mind since you were a child is this. A lot of people don’t like flossing because they have sensitive gums or just feel like brushing is good enough. Even though brushing is important, flossing is right up there with it, getting all the things between your teeth that your toothbrush isn’t able to. Buy a few different containers of floss, and keep them in your bathroom, purse, briefcase, desk, and other places in case of emergencies throughout the day!
- Use a fluoride mouthwash. It isn’t just to keep your breath fresh within close proximities to other people. Using a fluoride-based mouthwash can help strengthen your tooth enamel, making it stronger to fight against food and drinks daily.
- Eat and drink tooth-friendly things. Food is something that really can make or break your teeth. One of the best things to can do in taking care of your teeth at home is to not snack a lot, and really try to avoid sugary snacks. This goes for drinks too. Drinking sodas or acidic fruit juices will wear down the enamel on your teeth quickly, so try to drink as much water as possible when you’re thirsty throughout the day.
